Alcohol And The Need To Hydrate Our Bodies

When we talk about drinking water there is one important fact we need to fully understand. Most of our body is water. If it were not for the water contained in our bodies we would be a pile of dry dust. So there is no question that water is important for our health and even to keep us alive.

Drinking alcohol dehydrates us by shutting down some of the systems our body uses to cleanse the system. We go to the bathroom more but the alcohol removes more water than we take in with the drinks. The result is dehydration.

The effects of this are noticeable the following morning with headaches and nausea. The dehyration actually shrinks our brain a little causing discomfort as the nerves and attachments are stretched.

There are a couple of lessons we can take away from this. One is that water is essential to maintain a healthy body and the second thing is to be aware of the effects of alcohol and the importance of rehydrating your body after a previous night of drinking. It may not be a hangover cure but it should help speed your recovery.
